Flight Training Bursary

The Byberg Foundation supports the COPA 149 flight training bursary.

COPA 149 Flight Training Bursary


COPA 149 is excited to announce a new Flight Training Bursary at the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport (NCDRA).


A generous donation from Ken and Bev Byberg along with donations from members of COPA 149 have made it possible to launch a bursary of $1000.00 to each successful candidate.


This bursary will be awarded to an individual pursuing flight training at the NCDRA.  The criteria for this bursary are listed below.

COPA 149 would be pleased to accept donations towards this bursary from any interested individuals who would like to support flight training at the NCDRA.  Click on the button to view the donation form.


Criteria for the COPA 149 Bursary ($1000.00)

Training must take place at the NCDRA.

The recipient must be between 16 and 30 years of age.

The recipient must demonstrate need and commitment to be eligible.  Preference may be given to persons in or having completed an aviation related program.

The successful recipient will be chosen by COPA 149 in collaboration with the Chief Flying Instructor at the NCDRA.

The recipient must be a Canadian citizen.

The successful recipient will receive the bursary after completing a first solo, as verified by the CFI at the NCDRA.

The COPA 149 Flight Training Bursary for 2023 was presented at the August 21 BBQ to Ethan Foster, a student pilot at the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling airport. Ethan has completed his first solo flight and plans on a career in aviation. David has completed his first solo flight and plans on a career in aviation. The bursary is jointly funded by contributions from the Byberg Family Foundation and the members of COPA 149. Bill Salter receives Copa 149 flight training bursary

The COPA 149 Flight Training Bursary for 2016, valued at $250, was presented at the November 2016 COPA 149 meeting to Bill Salton, a student pilot at the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling airport by COPA 149 Captain Adrian Verburg.  Bill has obtained his Private Pilot licence.
