Air Race Classic June 21 - 23, 2019

The Municipalities of Welland, Pelham, Port Colborne and Wainfleet have declared June 19 to 24, 2019, Air Race Classic Week. In honour of 90 years of air racing, the route begins in Jackson, Tennesee and finishes in Welland, Ontario, Canada at the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport. Local pilot and air racer Dorothy Rungeling participated in this, and many other, air races across North America.

Hosted by the local chapter of the 99s, an international association of women pilots, with the assistance of a large number of volunteers from NCDRA-based COPA 149 and the cooperation of the NCDRA commission, the event had 49 registered entries from the USA and Canada. Local hotels, caterers, transportation companies and other tourism-related businesses provided the services needed for such an undertaking. This is another example of how the airport benefits the local economy and provides value to the four communities that govern its operations.
