COPA National Merit Award 2019

Awarded to COPA members who do something special to further COPA’s aims either singularly or over a period of time.

COPA 149 members nominated Adrian and Hortense Verburg for the 2019 award. COPA 149 and all users of the NCDR airport have benefitted mightily from the tireless efforts of Adrian and Hortense to continually improve the facilities and operation of the airport. A short list of some of the improvements intiated and spearheaded include the donation of the Administration Building, maintenance of a self-service canteen, a pilot lounge complete with computer and Internet access, the COPA 149 Courtesy Van, the rehabilitation of Runway 11/29 as a popular turf strip, upgrading of airport signage, refurbishment of the old Pump House to a useful storage facility for both the NCDRA and COPA 149, the card-lock fuel kiosk, numerous fly-in breakfasts, an annual COPA for Kids (Discover Aviation) program, summer BBQ events and many more. You can find slide shows for a few of these projects and events in the Archives section of this website.

The award was presented to Adrian and Hortense by grateful members of COPA 149 at the September 2019 BBQ.
